Task 2
Camera work:
Tracking shot was used in the extract 'Angus,Thongs and Perfect Snogging' when Georgia is running down a path away from a party back home in her olive costume. The connotative effect of this is that it makes the audience feel pitty for Georgia. Some may epathise or feel sorry for her. This is sterotypical for the target audience of 12-16 year old girls because some times they will do embarrassing things and just want to run a way from it all.
Another shot would be POV shot, this is used in the extract when Georgia is running down the street and you see the old people looking at her and staring. The connnotative effect of this is embarrassment and tension, you may feel paranoid that people are looking at you too. This links with the target audience because teenage girls always feel paranoid people are looking at them and judging them so in turn they can relate to this.
Soundtrack:
Digetic sound is used within the extract when Georgia walks into the party and everyone laughs at her. The connotative effect of this is adrenaline and excitment aswell as engagment because people like to judge others as much as we dont like to admit it its human nature everyone does it. So it makes you aware of whats going on even if you don't realise at first.
Amplified sound is used in the extract when Georgia is jumping on her olive costume in a strop. The connotative effect of this is it creates adrenaline because you don't know what she is going to do next and you feel her anger of the previouse evernts too. As well as creating excitment ans adrenaline. This links with the target audience because teenage girls oftern find themselves in a strop if things don't go their way or to plan.
Mise en scene:
Party iconography is used within the extract with the part cups and food as well as the costumes and fancy dress. The connotative effect of this on the audience is excitment and engagment you feel as if you're in the party too. This links to the target audience because teenagers oftern spend their time at parties with friends sterotypically.
The setting is rather busy and has a lot going on in it. The connotative effect of this is excitment, tension and embarrassment as you know as the audience a lot of people means a lot of people to stare at Georgia along with laugh at her.
Representation:
Gerogia was a countertype within the extract as she is wearing an stuffed olive party costume to a fancy dress party, she has mid-length hair and isn't really skinny. Although she has some sterotypical feautures as she is white, british and pretty.
Jazz is a sterotypical girl in the extract along with Lindsey. They are both wearing revealing fancy dress costumes, Jazz going in a devils costume with a low neck line and Lindsey in the sterotypical black cat fnacy dress costume. Also they both have long hair and skinny and pretty.
The world created is one of embarrassment, upset and bad decisions. This is showed when Goergia decided to wear a stuffed Olive costume instead of something revealing like most steotypical girls. You feel embarrassed for Georgia when she is being laughed at and whispered about, along with strangers staring at her in the streets. And Georgia becomes extremly upset over this and ends up crying into her bed face down ashamed.
Whats included within the extract is old people, women, some men, a baby, teenagers, and white bristsh people. What is excluded in the extract are religious people.
The title:
The title is in serif font which attracts an audience of teenage girls, because curls and curves sterotypically attract females because they look pretty.
The font is rather large so that it take sup half of the the screen so that you can't miss it which makes it easier for teenagers to read.
The colour of the font is completly white, white connotes innocence and freedom, teenage girls are rather innocent to the outside worldand what is going on around them, but as they get older and begin to grow up they find themselves with more freedom to do more. Its also gender neutral for a colour meaning it has a wider range of people that it can attract.

List of teen angst films:
1. clueless-20th October 1995-Director: Amy Heckling
2.Mean Girls- 18th June 2004- Director: Mark Waters
3.Angus,Thongs and Perfect Snogging- 25th July 2008- Director: Gurinder Chada
4. Easy A- 22nd October 2010- Director: Will Gluck
5. The Duff- 6th April 2015- Director: Ari Sandel
Teen angst timeline and there main trends:
20/10/1995 - Clueless:
- Drug use: The trend of drug use is seen in the extract 'Clueless' when main characters
Cher and Dionne offer their new friend Tia coke, nut they mean a form of drink/soda.
Tai then responds with "no shit you have coke here!" which leads to Cher's response
"yeah this is America". Tai believes they mean the drug cannabis.
- Sexual references- The trend of sexual references in 'Clueless' is shown in a more
responsible light, such as when Cher tells her friend Dionne and Tai as they're sitting
in a dinner that she is saving herself for someone special and that she isn't interested in
loosing it to a high school guy.
- Gender roles: The theme of gender roles in 'Clueless' is countertypicall to the stereotypical
lead roles in 1995. This is shown as the three main roles Cher, Dionne and Tai are all
played by women. They're also the most popular people in school, everyone wants to
know a socialize with. The character Cher has the power over the school socially, and
when there is something she wants she will get it. Such as when she lies to her teachers
to increase her grades on her report card, or when she 'hooks up' her two teachers and
that causes them two teacher to give homework which is to simply 'have fun' and
everyone high fives her. This is not stereotypical as usually a male role would take
the lead. And all the girls would swoon over him, and everyone wants to be him.
18/6/2004 - Mean Girl:
- social groups: The trend of social groups in 'Mean Girls' is shown when Jannis
draws Cady a map of the cafeteria on her second day of school. Which essentially
warns her where to sit and who to avoid. Jannis explains the cafeteria as tables with
different social groups These being the jocks, Asian nerds, cool Asians, girls who eat
their feelings, the plastics, the art freaks, freshmen, ROTC guys, preps, unfriendly black
hotties, desperate wanna be's, burn outs, and sexually active band geeks. This trend is
shown within 'Cluesless' but highlighted with more intensity in 'Mean Girls'.
- sexual references: The trend of sexual references is shown within 'Mean Girls' when cady
is invited to a Halloween dress up party. She enters the house wearing a zombie bride
outfit unaware of the motto "Halloween is the one day a girl can dress like a massive slut
and nobody can say anything about it". And Cady looks around seeing Rejena George
who is the leader of the plastics wearing a bunny outfit that is very revealing. In 'Mean
Girl' sex is seen as something cool. and a 'must do' which is a complete change to
'Clueless' were sex was more appreciated for what it was.
25/7/2008 - Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging:
- Sexual references: The theme of sexual references is shown throughout the whole of
'Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging' as the movie is based of a 'snogging scale'.
The two main male roles are referred to as 'Sex Gods' and the most popular girl in
school is named by Georgia as 'Slaggy Lindsey' who "has fake boobs a massive bum
and a blank personality". The movie follows four female main roles Georgia and her
'Ace Gang' Jazz, Rosie and Ellen as they try to win over the hearts of Robbie and Tom
(Sex Gods) and go higher up the snogging scale. 'Mean Girls' and 'Clueless' both have
sexual references in but its not the main plot line where in 'Angus, Thongs and Perfect
Snogging' the film is largely centred around this trend.
- Appearances: The trend of appearances is shown within 'Angus, Thongs and Perfect
Snogging' because Georgia, Jazz, Rosie and Ellen have a sleepover and pass around the
'Psychical Attractiveness Test' where they mark each other out of 10 on their psychical
features. You also see Georgia dye her hair blonde so she will come across more mature
and a new person. Although Robbie is a countertype to this as he tells her "its much nicer
natural" and then Georgia keeps her hair naturally brown. Another example of this trend in
the film is when they're at the pool and Georgia tells Jazz she has a problem lifts up her
towel and she has orange legs which she later tells Robbie she does because she believed
her legs where too pale.
22/10/2010 - Easy A:
- Sexual References: The trend of sexual references is shown in 'Easy A' when Olive
creates a lie about loosing her virginity, because everyone believes sex is a big deal.
In other instances sexual references is shown when Olive pretty much becomes a
prostitute. People in the school give her things and pay her to pretend she has had sex
with them. Such as when Brandon asks her to pretend to have sec with him to try and
cover up the fact that he is gay. The film is also very open with the issues that can arise
from sex though as it deals with situations such as Chlamydia which Mica caught from
his counsellor. These outcomes from having unprotected sex is not outlined in 'Clueless'
'Mean Girls' and 'Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging'
6/4/2015 - The Duff:
- Appearances: The trend of appearances is shown in 'The Duff' when Bianca makes a deal
with Wesley to make her a more attractive version of herself in return for helping Wesley
with his science test coming up. Wesley takes her to a lingerie store and makes her buy a
push up bra to make her 'boobs' look bigger. Then he tells her that her clothes don't tell
him anything about her, she needs to wear clothes that express her personality. In 'Clueless'
they give Tai a makeover to make her more attractive. In 'Easy A' she changes her clothes
to gain boys attention.
- Social Media: social media's a trend as more commonly used in 'The Duff' when Madison's
friend Kara takes a video of Bianca trying on new clothes, in the shop with
Wesley and fooling around a little. Kara posts this on a social media site and it
goes around the whole school. Bianca gets bullied and teased for this. And it
makes her the subject of gossip and rumour around school as well as the laughing
stock.
